West Kennet Long Barrow

Neolithic tomb or barrow, situated on a prominent chalk ridge, near Silbury Hill, one-and-a-half miles south of Avebury.

This Neolithic tomb built in around 3650 BC, is nearly 6000 years old and one of the largest in Britain.

It was used for a relatively short time as a burial chamber, with nearly 50 people being buried here before the chambers were blocked.

It is part of the Avebury World Heritage Site.

A short walk across the fields provides access to the site from the A4 where a layby allows parking for a reasonable number of cars.
